How to Track Canada Post Packages and Shipment
Canada Post has its official tracking page. Parcel senders and receivers can track their items on the Track tool of Canada Post using tracking, delivery notice cards or reference numbers.
Track Canada Post Parcels on the official page

- To use the Track tool, you need a tracking number from your receipt or package, a Delivery Notice Card that you received, or a reference number provided by the person who shipped the package and the shipping date.
- To track your package, enter the tracking number, Delivery Notice Card number, or reference number in the Tracking Number box and press the Track button to view your delivery status on the results page.
Track Canada Post on AfterShip

Another way to track Canada Post parcels is to use the AfterShip tracking page. Here are the steps to follow:
- Find your tracking number;
- Visit the AfterShip Tracking Page by following this link: https://www.aftership.com/track.
- Enter your tracking number: On the tracking page, enter your Canada Post package tracking number and click the "Track" button.
- Review tracking information: After a moment, the website will display the current status of your package, including its logistics progress, last known location and estimated delivery date.
What do tracking numbers look like and where to find them?
Most tracking numbers are 11 or 13 alphanumeric characters ending in CA or 16 digits. For example, 1111 1111 1111 1111 or AA 111 111 111 AA.
To locate your Canada Post tracking number, you have a few options:
- Check the receipt that you received when sending the parcel. The Canada Post tracking number is typically located just below the barcode on the receipt.
- Examine the shipping label attached to the parcel. The tracking number should be printed on the label.
- Refer to the confirmation email or message you received after sending the parcel. The tracking number might be included in the email or associated with the provided phone number.
If I lost the tracking number for my package. What can I do?
Try checking your email for a tracking link, contacting the sender, or checking your recent tracking history on our website. To make things easier next time, sign up for automatic tracking, download our app, or save your tracking number in your account dashboard. Additionally, as a sender, you can enter the tracking number before shipping or take a picture of the label. If you created the label online, you may be able to obtain a copy.
Delivery Notice Card Number Tracking
A Delivery Notice Card number is made up of 15 digits and serves the same purpose as a tracking number. You can find your Delivery Notice Card number on the notification card you received in the mail. You can enter the delivery notice card number on the Track page for updated logistics information.
Reference Number Tracking
Senders create reference numbers for some packages. If a reference number is available for your package, you can contact the sender to request the unique number or description. If you ordered your package online, you may find a reference number in the shipping confirmation email from the sender and you can use it to track your parcels.
Common Tracking Statuses
After you’ve entered your tracking number into Track, the results page will show you the most current information available about the location and status of your delivery. The tracking statuses that you may encounter frequently include:
- In transit
- Out for delivery
- Notice left
- Delivery Attempt Made / Rescheduled for delivery next business day
- Verifying recipient's address; Possible delay
- Check delivery progress
- Item held by customs
- Delivered as a safe drop
- Available for pickup
- Tracking information is unavailable
Track International Parcels Sent from Canada
If you are sending or receiving international packages from Canada, you can track them using the tracking number provided on your shipping label or receipt on our Track page or on a third-party platform like AfterShip Tracking third-party that some delivery services such as Small Packet™, Letter-post, Registered Mail™, and International Parcel™ do not offer tracking information or delivery confirmation for both U.S. and international destinations.
Track International Packages Coming to Canada
To locate your package and check its current status, you can use the Track feature (if you have a tracking number). In case the status is not shown in Track, you should get in touch with the sender and request them to look into it with their national postal service.
My package is in customs. What can I do?
International packages undergo screening before delivery, and customs clearance times depend on various factors. Canada Post cannot intervene or check the package's status in customs, but providing complete information before shipping can reduce the chance of it getting stuck. The CBSA inspects all international packages and releases those that are not prohibited or restricted, and once cleared, the package will be delivered as soon as possible.
